Objectives

To answer the call for national development

To operate in coordination with the University mid- and long-term development plans, and integrate its teaching and research resources, and also cultivate skillful personnel in international affairs and area studies reacting to the trend in international politics and economics under globalization. The College, therefore, operates with the nation¡¦s best interests in mind.

To encompass the best qualities within the University

The College consists of three institutes: the Department of Diplomacy, the only domestic collegiate department dedicated to teaching and research in diplomacy and international affairs, the Graduate Institute of East Asian Studies, the first area studies institute in China Affairs and East Asia, and the Graduate Institute of Russian Studies, the only graduate institute specializing in Russian and East European Studies at a national university. The university owns the richest library collections, facilities and other teaching resources on international affairs in the country. The university, with research materials stored in the Main Library, Social Sciences Materials Center, and the Institute of International Relations, boasts a collection of books, periodicals, publications by governments and international organizations, domestic and international newspapers, and paper clippings and serves to attend to the needs of teaching and research in the College. The university over the years has gained its fame in the research and study of international affairs. This can be readily demonstrated by the number of research awards and National Science Council research grants and projects awarded to faculty members annually within the College. Local and international conferences are held regularly among the three institutes within the College as a forum to share research results.

To integrate academic resources

According to the Project of Top-notch Universities, the cross-strait and international affairs have been classified as key development fields. The university, with its long history in teaching and research, together with rich library collections, has an academic responsibility to organize an integral body of international affairs in the best interest of national development and for the improvement of research efficiency. The future programs of establishing new department will first integrate existing human resources, and recruit qualified scholars to improve the teaching and research quality for the College.
